Practice Principal
Dr. Sara Renwick-Lau is an experienced Rural Generalist who has been providing comprehensive health care to remote communities for over two decades. She has special interests in palliative care, antenatal care, mental health, remote and pre-hospital urgent care, emergency and disaster medicine and teaching and supervision of medical students and doctors-in-training.
Sara studied at the University of Melbourne and started her career at the Royal Darwin Hospital. She obtained her General Practice, specialist training while working in remote Indigenous communities of the Northern Territory. There, she was able to consolidate her skills to practice the full breadth of her medical training as well as provide medical education for junior doctors working in General Practice in the bush and help with the recruitment of doctors to remote NT communities.
In 2007, Sara, her husband Marcus and children returned to Victoria and were immediately drawn to the pristine beauty and vibrant community of Mallacoota.
Sara and Marcus (who manages the practice) lead a growing Mallacoota Medical Centre team, who are enthusiastic and motivated to provide a supportive, caring environment, where providing access to quality patient care is foremost. While working alongside other passionate community members, they enjoy the rewarding pursuit of quality, pro-active patient-centered, cradle-to-grave medical care,
When not at the Medical Centre seeing and supervising patients, Sara’s other pursuits include travel, supporting her three children and outdoor activities in their pristine local natural setting where she enjoys swimming, surfing, horse-riding and hiking.
Dr Emily Butlin
MD, FRACGP-RG, FARGP
Dr. Emily Butlin began her General Practice career in Mallacoota 4 years ago. After retiring from her work in explosives engineering, attending Medical school and completing her junior doctor years working in hospitals, Mallacoota was her first experience in working as a doctor in a community setting. During 2018 she fell in love with the ocean and enjoying her patients and the community's offerings.
Since leaving Mallacoota to continue her training, Dr. Emily has increased her knowledge and skills in rural General Practice while working in Maffra, as well as also working in an anesthetics training position at LaTrobe Regional Hopital in Traralgon.
She passed her Fellowship exams with flying colours in 2021. Her GP qualifications, essentially bringing her into the ranks of the Rural Proceduralist General Practitioners - a highly trained GP with Emergency Medicine and Anesthetic skills.
DR JENNY SCHLAGER
MBBS, FACRRM, Dip PallMed & SkinCaMed
One of the original owners of the practice, Dr Jenny has now semi-retired from GP work in Mallacoota, however continues to provide the community with her special interest service of skin cancer treatment clinics twice a month.
